Cruises can be a wonderful family vacation idea. They enable you to get away from the normal ins and outs of life and just relax. At least in theory. What ends up happening all too often is that we end up more stressed and tired after a vacation with our children than before. We love them dearly and want them to experience the joys of vacation but, let's face it, it can be a hassle. It takes extremely thoughtful and precise packing, limits on your time and the activities you can partake in, and then there is all the excitement they are going to have that you have to match. Every now and then, wouldn't we just love to go somewhere with just our spouse or partner? This is what the best cruise lines for adults are designed for. Some much-needed peace and quiet, some conversations of a higher intellect, and a chance to refresh yourself and have some fun along the way may be just what you need. The following review is here to help you choose which of the best cruise lines for adults is right for you.

The Best Cruise Lines for Adults - FAQ's

1. What Are Cruise Lines?

Adults-only cruise lines are companies that offer a cruise, or several, that are designed for adults only as opposed to being family or children oriented.

 2. What Does it Do?

These cruise lines do not offer activities that are geared for children and instead offer primarily options that mature adults will appreciate. This makes it unlikely that children will accompany their parents and/or guardians on such vacations. In fact, companies such as Viking do not even allow children under the age 16 on board at all.

 3. Where can you Buy It?

The best cruise lines for adults offer cruises on their websites and through their affiliates' websites. Though often times you can purchase such vacations via the phone as well.

4. Price Range

The price range of these best cruises for adults vary depending on the company you sail with, the company you buy the fare from, the length of your trip and the destination of your trip. Your stateroom size and style will affect the pricing as well as the time of the year in which you are traveling.

How we Reviewed

The following best cruises for adults were reviewed based on the following parameters: Features, Pros & Cons, Price, and Where to Buy.

Overall Price Range Of This Product

You will notice as you go through this review that some cruise prices seem to be a lot more than others. The factors listed above in the price range section have everything to do with that. The longer you stay, the more expensive your trip will be just as the larger your room, the more expensive it will be, etc. However, some cruise lines, like Viking and Regent, always seem to have higher prices. You will pay more upfront on one of their cruises than you will with some others. However, they make up for this by including a lot more in onboard and shore options, such as dining, drinks, access to spas and other amenities and/or shore excursions. Other cruise lines that don't charge as much for your fare will often gouge you a bit later with their pricing for certain amenities whether on board or on shore.

Features

All six ships in this fleet are fairly small. However, they provide several dining choices, swimming pools, bars, and lounges as well as onboard activities. The rooms are tastefully designed with stylish decor, and even though some are small, they offer all the necessities. It is noted that because of the small size of these ships, many of the rooms are close to the water and therefore do not have balconies. Furthermore, the ship is prone to being tossed about in rough waters more often than some larger vessels. Those who tend to get seasick may not do well here.

The Verdict on the Best Cruise Lines for Adults

Boat railing overseeing the ocean

The variety held in this review is fairly large. This both helps and hinders our final decision for the best cruise lines for adults. The main decision making factor any of these cruise lines and the adults only cruises they offer are if you are seeking the quiet solitude of a couple's getaway or if you are traveling for just yourself and some "me" time.

While couples and singles alike are welcome and encouraged to join all of these, there are some that are more designed for them specifically. The smaller cruise ships such as those owned by Azamara and Windstar might be the best for those who are out for peace and few other people. However, if you don't mind more people, Viking and Regent offer a very nice trip as well. If you are out with friends for vacation and want some serious chances to get active and not so secluded, look into Norwegian and Celebrity.

These best cruise lines for adults are made for activity after activity and all the new people you could meet. No matter which one you choose just watch out for their price tags. And remember that if they charge a lot up front, chances are they will offer a lot of inclusions that your cheaper options may not. All those little extras add up really quickly, and it might be worth it to spend more in advance. Be sure to look into them carefully.
